On November 19, our school held a special academic lecture in the second conference room of Shaw Building. Professor Kulatilake, a foreign teacher and national expert of the School of Resources and Environmental Engineering, gave a lecture entitled "recent developments on rock mass stability investments associated with surface and underground excavation in three dimensions". Teachers, postgraduates and undergraduates of mining engineering and other related majors attended the lecture.

In the lecture, Professor Kulatilake first showed you the latest progress of 3D numerical analysis software in mining engineering, and explained to the students the use methods of FLAC3D and 3DEC simulation software. Later, he introduced to the students how to use FLAC3D to simulate the stability of surrounding rock, draw the starting stress-strain curve and displacement situation, and explained how to use 3DEC to assign the value of joint fissures in rock to simulate the deformation of rock. The combination of the two led to the experimental conclusion.

Professor Kulatilake also uses bolt support technology to simulate the roof and floor of the tunnel, and in view of the problems still existing in the mining process at present, puts forward the development of new equipment, new software and other ways to solve.

Finally, Professor Kulatilake had an in-depth communication with the participants and answered the questions one by one in detail.

Kulatilake, male, Professor, national distinguished expert, registered engineer of the United States, senior member of the American Society of civil engineers, former professor of engineering geology / geotechnical engineering of the University of Arizona, director of rock mass simulation and computational Rock Mechanics Laboratory of the University of Arizona. Mainly engaged in joint engineering mechanical properties, rock block theory, rock slope stability, underground chamber stability and other research, its results are widely used in mining, civil engineering, water conservancy, oil and other fields, and has achieved good results, it enjoys a high reputation in the engineering field.
