On the morning of May 18th, the dissertation defense of Mawuko, the first international doctoral candidate of our school, was successfully held in conference room B315, Yifu Building, Golden Campus. The defense meeting was carried out online and offline. Professor Wang Zhijun of China University of Mining and Technology served as the chairman of the defense committee. The defense committee was composed of professors from four universities, including professor Jeong-Gium from Pukyong National University, professor Sun Shaorui from Hohai University, professor Liu Liansheng from Jiangxi University of Science and Technology, and professor Wu Qiong from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan). Leaders and teachers from Jiangxi University of Science and Technology also presented the defense meeting, including dean of School of International Education Xiao Guifang, vice dean Li Feng, dean of our school He Guichun and Mawuko’s tutor Kulatilake.
At the defense meeting, Mawuko made a detailed presentation from the following aspects: the topic background, research methods, research results and conclusions of his doctoral dissertation “Comprehensive Study on Roint Roughness Quantification, Rock Mass Uniformity Statistics and Rock Slope Stability Evaluation”. After listening to the presentation, the defense committee made a fair and detailed comment on the format, research design, research work and thesis content. Then, they fully affirmed the research theory and content of Mawuko’s thesis.
Finally, the defense committee unanimously agreed that Mawuko met the requirements and approved the dissertation defense.
Mawuko Luke Yaw Ankah is a doctoral candidate in mining engineering at the School of Resources and Environmental Engineering in Jiangxi University of Science and Technology. He previously received a master’s degree in Applied Geology from Dokuz Eylul University, Izmir, Turkey and a bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering from Tarkwa University of Technology, Ghana. He has worked on mine slope stability issues at Newmont Garner Gold Co. LTD, and on road cutting slope stability issues in Izmir Province, Turkey. In the past two years, Mawuko Luke Yaw Ankah has published 5 SCIE papers (three of them were published as the lead author) and 2 SCOPUS papers as lead author.
