A few days ago, a series of competitions and conferences was held successfully in Kunming, including the 35th National Academic Annual Meeting of Mining Engineering in Colleges and Universities, the 11th National Practical Works Competition of Mining Engineering Students in Colleges and Universities, the 5th National Teaching Competition for Young Teachers of Mining Engineering in Colleges and Universities and the 4th Mining Engineering Postgraduate Forum, which are sponsored by the Teaching Steering Committee of Mining Engineering in Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education and hosted by Kunming University of Science and Technology and co-organized by Guizhou Institute of Technology. Some people in our university were invited to attend the offline conference, including Rao Yunzhang who is the deputy director of the Mining Education Committee of the Ministry of Education and doctoral supervisor of the Department of Mining Engineering of our university, Yu Xinyang who is the deputy dean of the College of Resources and Environmental Engineering and director of the Department of Mining Engineering Zeng Peng. Finally, Jiangxi University of Science and Technology won 3 second prizes and 5 third prizes in the Student Practical Works Competition.
The annual academic conference of mining engineering was held online and offline. More than 200 teachers and students from 13 universities and some enterprises in China attended the offline conference, with more than 5,600 online participants. With the themes of “strengthening curriculum and ideological education, helping first-class majors, and strengthening the training of mining engineering professionals in the new era”, the participants held in-depth discussions and exchanges. Professor Rao gave a keynote speech entitled “Thoughts on the Construction of National First-class Major in Mining Industry” at the meeting.
At the graduate forum, 40 graduate students from 15 universities in China were invited to give a lecture. Liu Zhouchao, Yang Yan, Gu Qixiong, Wang Haozhong, doctoral student of the College of Resources and Environmental Engineering, made academic reports entitled “Experimental Study on Mechanical Properties and Energy Evolution Characteristics of Cemented Filling Materials with Different Sizes”, “Experimental Study on Dynamic Failure Characteristics of Rock Materials with Concealed Structures with Different Inclinations”, “Effects of Confining Pressure on Acoustic Emission and Failure Characteristics of Sandstone”, and “Study on Adsorption and Desorption Behavior of Fine Particles of Rare Earth Orebodies during Ion Exchange”, respectively.
A total of 576 works from 47 universities were received in this competition, including 207 physical model works, 214 digital models and 155 learning models, which covers multiple industry sectors, such as coal, nonferrous metals, emergency, nonmetallic, chemical, building materials and other industries. Nine works selected by the College of Resources and Environmental Engineering of our university stood out in the competition, including “the Multifunctional Intelligent Unmanned Exploration Vehicle” (physical model, instructor: Zeng Peng, Liu Liansheng, Zhao Kui) by Chen Yuankui, “the Spider-Man for Mine Emergency Rescue” (physical model, instructors: Zeng Peng, He Hui, Zhao Kui) by Li Yanda, a 2019 mining engineering major. In addition, Bai Yingjie, a 2020 mining engineering major, and other students won the second prize for three works, namely “Learning Model of Filling Mining Method after Mining in the Stage of Hanging Tank Drilling and Remote Control Scraper” (learning model, instructor: Wang Shi). And five works, such as “Real-time Monitoring Device of Tailing Dam Water Level” by Jiangjin, a 2019 mining engineering major, won the third prize.
It is reported that the National Academic Annual Meeting of Mining Engineering in Colleges and Universities is an important forum and platform for teachers of mining engineering to exchange teaching experience and improve the quality of personnel training, which plays an important role in promoting the education, teaching, personnel training and discipline construction of mining engineering in our university. In the closing ceremony of the conference, a news was confirmed that the 36th National Academic Annual Meeting of Mining Engineering in Colleges and Universities will be held in our university.
