A few days ago, the 5th National Undergraduate Metallurgical Science and Technology Competition, sponsored by the Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education and organized by Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, came to an end. Through preliminary evaluation of works, expert meeting evaluation, on-site defense and other links, our school finally won two special awards, five first prizes and 12 second prizes, and was awarded the "Excellent Organization Award".
A New Energy Saving and Efficient Denitrification System for Ammonia Nitrogen Wastewater from Rare Earth Mines, written by Su Hao and others from the School of Resources and Environmental Engineering of our school (instructors: Zhang Dachao and Zhong Lin), won the Special Prize for Scientific and Technological Innovation with the best performance in China; Yuan Yuanliang of the Materials Metallurgical Chemistry Department and others' work "Nitrogen and phosphorus co doped carbon nanotubes/Fe2P nanocrystals composite for high efficiency oxygen reduction and zinc air battery" (instructors: Zhong Xiaocong, Wang Ruixiang) won the special prize of science and technology innovation category.
Su Hao, the head of the Green Water Jinshan team, said that the whole team gathered together and devoted themselves to the preliminary preparation of the competition. All members actively and seriously prepared the roadshow and defense, recited the speech manuscript over and over again. After a long rehearsal, they demonstrated the style of science and engineering students on the day of the final, which won the praise of experts, and finally won the first prize.
With the theme of "intelligence, low carbon and environmental protection", this competition attracted a total of 1675 entries from 73 universities in 25 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government) across the country, creating a new high in the number of participating universities and works. More than 40 experts in the metallurgical field from more than 20 universities, enterprises and research institutes across the country participated in the evaluation of the competition. After centralized meeting and evaluation, 33 works of the top prize, 105 works of the first prize, 191 works of the second prize and 332 works of the third prize in the scientific and technological innovation and creative design competition unit were finally determined.
It is reported that the National Undergraduate Metallurgy Science and Technology Competition is open to junior college, undergraduate and graduate students majoring in metallurgy, materials, chemical industry, resources, energy, environment, etc. The purpose is to mobilize and encourage college students to actively participate in public welfare science popularization, and to cultivate college students' professional interest. At the same time, it can enhance college students' scientific and technological innovation awareness, broaden their professional knowledge boundary, exercise their technological operation skills, and improve their engineering practice ability.
