Environmental Science & Engineering disciplines
Environmental Science & Engineering disciplines of Jiangxi University of Science & Technology was established in 1998. It is relying on the characteristics of traditional disciplines as founded by Mineral Processing Engineering, Mining Engineering, Safety Science & Engineering, etallurgical Engineering and Chemical Engineering & Technology in our university. Since the accumulation of personnel, teaching practice and the scientific research in the characteristics of traditional disciplines such as non-ferrous metal mining and metallurgy industry, environmental protection and pollution control, Environmental Science & Engineering was established. Its establishment is also to meet the demands of science & technology and talent on environmental protection in which servicing in the sustainable development of nonferrous metal mining industry of demand in our country. In 1998, the Engineering Master's Degree Granting Right of the second level of Environmental Engineering was obtained. The master qualification in the Engineering field was achieved in 2004. In the same year, Jiangxi Province Colleges and Universities Professional Brand were rated. Jiangxi Province Colleges and Universities "Eleventh Five Year Plan" key construction disciplines were rated in 2006. In 2010, the Master's Degree Granting Right of Environmental Science & Engineering of first level discipline of Environmental Science & Engineering was obtained. Jiangxi Province "Twelfth Five" model of master was rated in 2011. Since 2012 our university has recruited doctoral students in the direction of the mine environment and ecological restoration in the Doctoral Personnel Training Project of "Ion Type Rare Earth Resources Development & Utilization". The total number of subjects is 30 persons, including 7 professors, 14 associate professors, 9 lecturers, in which doctoral accounting for 80%. One enjoys the Ministry of education “in the New Century Talents”, one the GanPo 555 Engineering Excellence Candidate, one the Academic & Technical Leaders of Major Academic Disciplines in Jiangxi Province, one the Jiangxi Province in the New Century Talents First & Second Level Talent, three Young Academic Leaders in Jiangxi universities, one Jiangxi “Jinggang Star” Training Object.
Ⅰ Positioning & Objectives
Based on the discipline foundation, the specialty characteristic and the service domain, the discipline construction and development was orientated that the construction of a distinctive, highlighting the advantages of non-ferrous metal mining and metallurgy industry, environmental protection technology research of innovation bases and personnel training base, in which around the service of non-ferrous metal mining industry sustainable development of environmental protection science and technology demand and local economic construction and the construction of ecological civilization. Through the research of innovation, the common problems and key technical problems such as clean production, waste reduction and recycling economy industry of non-ferrous mining and metallurgy will be captured. The level of environmental protection in non-ferrous metal mining and metallurgy industry will also be improved constantly.

In the process of scientific research and social science & technology service, the disciplines areintegration deeply at production, learning and research through the multidisciplinary crossing with Mineral Processing Engineering, Mining Engineering, Safety science & Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering and Chemical Engineering & Technology, which solve cleaner production, energy-saving emission reduction, resource recycling, pollution control, ecological restoration and other problems for the nonferrous metal mining and metallurgy enterprise. It formed the following advantages and features:
1. The environmental pollution control and ecological restoration technology of ion type rare earth mining area, which can effectively solve the problems of ecological environment in the development of ion type rare earth resources in South China.
2. The waste water treatment & recycling technology in copper, lead, zinc and other non-ferrous metal mine,which improves the utilization rate of mine water resources and achieves the source of heavy metal pollution control.
3. Series of complete sets of equipment key technology and industrialization of waste electronic products resources, which effectively solve the problem of waste electronic and electrical waste resource recycling and environmental risks.
4. Efficient wet dust collector and high pulse power supply for electric precipitator, which highly emission reduction control of industrial dust implementation of mining enterprises.

The innovative and compound type talents that has a solid environmental engineering basic theoretical knowledge, professional knowledge and good experimental skills will be cultivated. The talents are also able to independently carry out scientific research, access to skilled professional literature at home and abroad. They need the courage to explore, innovation and can use modern advanced technologies and methods to solve the theory and practical problems of environmental pollution control and ecological restoration. The talents must be competent the jobs of environmental technology management, design, construction, operation and technology research and development of innovative in government department, planning department,
environmental protection department, design units, industrial and mining enterprises, scientific research institutions. They will provide a solid security personnel for nonferrous metal mining and metallurgy enterprise environmental protection.

Around the service of rare earth, tungsten and other national characteristics resources, and ecological and environmental problems in development and utilization process of some advantages mineral resources such as copper, lead, zinc of Jiangxi Province, the disciplines always closely link to local social and economic development needs of the industry, give full play of business resources for the school and domestic non-ferrous metal industry factories, mines and other enterprises. The disciplines also actively carry out the environmental protection science & technology research of non-ferrous metal mining and metallurgy industry. It has formed of the following five characteristics in the direction of the subject.
1. Wastewater treatment & resource of mining & metallurgy;
2. Solid waste treatment & resource of mining & metallurgy;
3. Industrial ventilation and flue gas purification;
4. Environmental and ecological restoration of mines;
5. Industrial ecology and cleaner production.
Ⅴ Influence at Home & Abroad
The disciplines have distinctive characteristics, obvious advantages of industry and geographical. The Environmental Science & Engineering laboratory was approved for Jiangxi Province Mining Environment Pollution Control Key Laboratory in 2012. Relying on the direction of ion type rare earth mine environment and ecological restoration in the “ion type rare earth resources development training program”, training doctoral students has become the high-level personnel training base for ion type rare earth resources development environment management and ecological restoration since 2013. Also, it is one of the support subjects of the National Ion Type Rare Earth Resource Efficient Development & Utilization Engineering Technology Research Center, Tungsten Resources Development & Application of Engineering of Ministry of Education Research Center, Ion Type Rare Earth Resources Development & Application Co-construction of the Provincial & Department of Teaching Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education, High Level Laboratory of Ion Type High Efficient Rare Earth Development & Application of Jiangxi Province, Ion Type Rare Earth Resources Development & Application of Collaborative Innovation Center, Tungsten Resources Development & Application of Collaborative Innovation Center, and other national, provincial and ministerial level platform. In the past 5 years, the disciplines carry out actively the basic research and technical services in the field of environmental protection work of nonferrous metal mining and metallurgy. The Service object includes the Jiangxi Copper Group, Jiangxi Tungsten Group, Ganzhou Rare Earth Group, Guangxi Huaxi Group, Fujian Zijin Group, Western Mining Group, China Minmetals Group, Sichuan Nonferrous Metals Group, Tongling Nonferrous Group, Jinchuan Company, Jinduicheng Molybdenum Group and other domestic large and medium-sized mining enterprises. It has undertaken 18 national project of National Science & Technology Support Program, the National Natural Scienc Funds, 21 provincial-level projects, more than 80 commissioned projects of enterprises items, with an average annual research funding of more than 900 million yuan. Research achievements had applied in the domestic non-ferrous mining and metallurgy enterprise, which solving effectively more than 10 problems of environmental protection and pollution control of industrial generic technology in non-ferrous metal mining enterprises. More than 20 demonstration bases of mining wastewater treatment system and mine ecological restoration had established base, which provided a strong support for metallurgical industry environmental protection technology development.
