On July 19th to 20th, the final of the 8th National Higher Education Mineral Processing Engineering Students' Practical Works Competition was held in our university. The competition was organized by the Teaching Guidance Committee for Mining Majors in Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education and the Collaborative Cooperation Alliance for Mineral Processing Engineering Majors in Chinese Universities, and hosted by Jiangxi University of Technology and Fuzhou University. More than 200 teachers, students, and representatives of some enterprises from 38 universities across the country, including Central South University and Beijing University of Science and Technology, participated in the competition. Vice Secretary of the University Party Committee and President Wen Herui, Vice Secretary of the University Party Committee Luo Xianping, Director of the Collaborative Cooperation Alliance for Mineral Processing Engineering in Chinese Universities, and Xie Guangyuan from China University of Mining and Technology attended the relevant activities. The opening and closing ceremonies of the competition will be presided over by our dean, He Guichun.
At the opening ceremony, Luo Xianping warmly welcomed the arrival of all teachers and classmates. He stated that the practical work competition is an important carrier for guiding young students to advocate technology, be brave in innovation, and actively start their own businesses. The school takes this competition as an opportunity to continue providing scientific and technological innovation services and platform support to young college students, effectively helping them cultivate innovation awareness and enhance their innovative practical abilities.
Xie Guangyuan stated that the development of the practical work competition cannot be separated from the active participation of young students and the strong support of participating universities. He hopes that all participating teams can unite and collaborate to showcase their style and level in the competition, and showcase the youthful charm of technological innovation on the stage of the practical work competition. Fuzhou University gave a high-level introduction to the competition overview and rules of this competition.
This competition adopts a combination of online review and conference review to evaluate works. During the online review stage, out of 252 entries submitted by nearly 1000 students from 39 universities across the country, 76 third prize works and 78 finalists were selected. The final adopted an offline defense method, inviting 36 evaluation experts to conduct on-site defense and evaluation of the shortlisted works in groups. A total of 27 first prizes and 51 second prizes were awarded. Our institute recommended a total of 11 works to participate in the competition. In the end, 4 works led by Wu Junjie from Class 202 of Kuangjia, Tang Mengyan from Class 202 of Kuangjia, Yu Chao from Class 201 of Kuangjia, and Zeng Yinglin from Class 212 of Kuangjia won first prize, and also received excellent results in 3 second prizes and 3 third prizes. At the same time, our school and 12 universities including China University of Mining and Technology and Central South University have won the Excellent Organization Award.
At the closing ceremony, Wen and Rui presented awards to universities that have won the Excellent Organization Award, and He Guichun announced the list of winners. Xie Guangyuan stated in his concluding speech that the competition is well prepared and well arranged, with a large number of participating universities and experts, high expert level, a combination of old, middle, and young people, multiple participating universities, multiple participating works, and high quality of works.
It is reported that the National College Mineral Processing Engineering Student Practice Works Competition is the highest level and most influential annual competition in mineral processing engineering. This competition has been held since 2016 until its eighth session, gradually becoming a platform for students majoring in mineral processing engineering to exchange, learn, exchange, and innovate. In 2024, Fuzhou University and Jiangxi University of Technology will jointly host the 6th China University Mineral Processing Engineering Professional Collaborative Cooperation Alliance Conference and also hold the 9th National Higher Education Mineral Processing Engineering Student Practical Works Competition.
