Recently, CCTV-10 broadcast the program “Tracing Stone Bell Mountain” in the column “Geography China”. Liu Weiming and Feng Liang, two professors from our Department, were invited to participate in the recording of the program, which showed the good educational level and scientific research strength of JXUST.
Stone Bell Mountain Mountain, known as “the first mountain in China”, located in the old town of Hukou County, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, where is the intersection of Yangtze River and Poyang Lake. The Stone Bell Mountain is 61.8 meters above sea level, with a relative height of about 40 meters and an area of 0.2 square kilometers. It is famous for a deep water at its foot, where the winds and waves striking the rocks make a sound like that of great bells.
Taking the origin of Stone Bell Mountain’s name as a clue, Feng Liang and Liu Weiming, two professors from our university, led the audience to explore the secret of this mountain in the programme. They explained the causes of various phenomena in Stone Bell Mountain with their professional knowledge. The vivid explanations made it easy for the amateur audience to understand. While carrying out science education, the column also allows the audience to appreciate the wonders of nature.
“Geography China” is a popular science TV program broadcast by the Science and Education Channel of CCTV. With the clue of geological scientific research and the aim of popularizing geographical knowledge, the program introduces the new discoveries, achievements and explorations of geology, which shows the novelty, strangeness, uniqueness and beauty of geological landforms.
